(ANSA) - WASHINGTON, MAY 17 - Joe Biden phoned Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu today, expressing "his support for a ceasefire" and discussing "the US commitment with Egypt and other partners for this purpose". This was announced by the White House. Biden then "reiterated his firm support for Israel's right to defend itself against indiscriminate rocket attacks" and the two presidents "discussed the Israeli army's progress against Hamas and other terrorist groups in Gaza".
