In Bispingen, Lower Saxony, a 35-year-old and her four-year-old son were discovered dead in a house.
Both had shown traces of violence, said the police and prosecutors on Monday.
The bodies were found on Sunday.
On Sunday afternoon, a suspect was arrested in Schneverdingen, about 20 kilometers away, who was the 34-year-old partner of the killed, the investigators said.
The arrested person was brought before the judge on Monday afternoon and is now in custody.
He did not provide any information on the matter, it said.
Eleven-year-old daughter is still missing
The victim's eleven-year-old daughter is missing.
Search measures have so far been unsuccessful.
Police released a photo of the girl and asked witnesses who saw the 11-year-old from 5:00 a.m. on Sunday morning to come forward.
In connection with the missing child, the police seized the suspect's vehicle with a license plate from Diepholz.
The police stressed that because of the ongoing investigation, no further information would be released at the moment.
