Lightning strikes hundreds of thousands of times a year in Germany.
Usually nothing happens and the discharges go down in nature.
Now, however, a 17-year-old has been seriously injured by a lightning strike in Karlsruhe.
The 17-year-old was either in the immediate vicinity of the site of the impact on Monday afternoon or was even hit directly by lightning, the police said.
The incident took place in a playground.
The boy came to the hospital.
There was initially no information on the severity of the injuries.
According to initial findings, lightning struck a play frame.
Other youths remain unharmed
Three other young people, who, like the 17-year-old, were also in the playground at the time of the lightning strike, were uninjured.
