In April, the national consumer price index for the entire community (NIC), gross of tobacco, recorded a + 0.4% on a monthly basis. Inflation is 1.1% (from + 0.8% in March), confirming the preliminary estimate.
This was announced by Istat in the final estimate. "In April, it is the acceleration in the prices of energy goods that drives the further growth of inflation", explains Istat, specifying that "this acceleration is due, however, to a large extent, to the comparison with April 2020, when the prices of these products, also for the health emergency, had suffered a marked decrease compared to the previous month ".
On the other hand, the prices of the so-called "shopping cart" widen their decline, leading to levels not recorded since August 1997 (when they decreased by 0.8% on an annual basis). The prices of the so-called shopping cart, that is of food goods, for home and personal care, which mark a -0.7% from -0.1% in March.
