The Mexican, Andrea Meza, was crowned Miss Universe yesterday during a ceremony in the United States in which
Miss Burma
denounced the military coup in her country.
The 2020 edition of Miss Universe had been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Meza, 26, beat the Brazilian and Peruvian finalists.
Overall, over 70 contestants participated in the competition, which was held in Hollywood, Florida.
Miss Mexico was thus awarded the 69th title of Miss Universe.
The previous edition was won by the South African Zozibini Tunzi, crowned Miss Universe 2019.
For her part, Miss Burma, Thuzar Wint Lwin, took advantage of the ceremony to denounce the political and humanitarian situation in her country, stating that "our people die and are hit by the army every day": therefore, she said, "I would like to exhort everyone talking about Burma ".
