Attila Hildmann may have received information about the arrest warrant against him from legal circles.
The Berlin public prosecutor's office suspects that this information was passed on inadmissibly from within its own ranks.
The authority announced that it was being investigated against unknown persons for breach of official secrets.
The Süddeutsche Zeitung had previously reported on it.
Hildmann has been in Turkey for months, so an arrest warrant on the urgent suspicion of sedition cannot be carried out.
According to the public prosecutor's office, the 40-year-old has both German and Turkish citizenship.
His return is currently unlikely.
The Süddeutsche Zeitung reports that Hildmann found out about the arrest warrant very early on.
He reported the arrest warrant to the followers in his Telegram groups at a time when very few people in the judiciary even knew about it.
Hildmann should not have flown to Turkey because of the arrest warrant.
He had already gone abroad for a "long time" before the arrest warrant was issued.
Suspicion of sedition
In the preliminary investigation against Hildmann, the Berlin prosecution checked more than 1000 statements.
In addition to the suspicion of sedition, it is also about the suspicion of publicly calling for criminal acts and resisting police officers.
Formerly known as a vegan cookbook author, Hildmann calls himself “ultra-right” and a “conspiracy preacher”.
Hildmann had appeared several times in protests against the corona protective measures.
The police in Brandenburg had searched Hildmann's apartment in November and preventively seized evidence.
In December it was obtained that the public prosecutor's office can evaluate laptops, cell phones, memory cards and USB sticks.
The investigations were bundled in Berlin.
Justice Senator Dirk Behrendt (Greens) justified this with effective criminal prosecution.
Several preliminary investigations from Brandenburg had been handed over to the authorities in the capital.
