(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 18 - The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, has arrived in Brescia.

The head of state participates in the inauguration of the Academic Year.

In fact, his visit was scheduled for October 29 and was postponed due to the surge in Covid cases.

President Mattarella is accompanied by the Minister of the University and Research Maria Cristina Messa.

Upon his arrival, the national anthem was performed and a minute of silence observed in memory of the victims of the pandemic.

At the end of the ceremony at the University Mattarella will visit a vaccination hub.
