The state parliament in Brandenburg voted against a waiver of school grades until the summer and a general transfer of all students.
A corresponding motion by the opposition left did not find a majority.
The MPs also rejected calls to reduce the curriculum in math, German, English and other subjects and to strengthen extracurricular educational opportunities.

"For more than a year there has been a state of emergency for our children," said the left education politician Kathrin Dannenberg justifying the request.
"The educational train went on and gradually a wagon was taken down, especially with children who are not in first class." The application is intended to take the pressure off the families and provide motivation.
Less pressure is good, but renouncing grades and transfer certificates is the wrong way, argued the SPD and CDU.
The normal assessments provided clear feedback and orientation for the schoolchildren. Education Minister Britta Ernst emphasized that the number of class tests had already been halved.
The SPD politician affirmed that she wanted to end the alternating classes before the summer vacation if possible.
"We have worked to ensure that the students are not attacked with tests when they come back to school," said Ernst.
And: "Of course we keep an eye on the fact that the pandemic has psychosocial consequences for children and adolescents."
