Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Grodin began his film career with a small role in Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (1954) but real popularity comes precisely with Heartbreaker. The actor reached his peak in the early 90s when he played George Newton, a neurotic family man, in the film Beethoven and its sequel, Beethoven 2. In 1994 he starred in My Summer Story, the sequel to the film A Christams Story. After a thirteen hiatus, he returns to the set to star in the comedy The Ex, directed by Jesse Peretz.
