For the first time in the past 20 days, the Israeli police today authorized the entry of Jewish faithful into the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, which for Judaism is the Temple Mount.
The entry of Jews into that area had been temporarily banned following fierce clashes between Islamic faithful and the police during the Ramadan celebrations.
From today, the police authorize the entry of Jews in groups of up to 20 people, for four hours a day.
Inside the esplanade they are escorted by police forces.
The reaction of the Palestinian foreign ministry to the resumption of visits by Jews to the Temple Mount in Jerusalem was immediate: "it represents a brutal provocation of the feelings of Muslims", reads a statement quoted by the official Palestinian news agency Wafa. "This is the continuation of the aggression against our people in general and against Jerusalem and its Holy Places in particular", the ministry continues.
