College diploma: the "galley" in the 15 departments still in half-gauge

While the health situation is improving everywhere, colleges in fifteen departments remain subject to reception restrictions. A case

It is the “forgotten” diploma of the debates of recent weeks.

We have said everything about the baccalaureate… but what about the college diploma?

900,000 third-year students will have to work on this test on June 28 and 29 which, of course, is not a "certifying" exam conditioning entry to the upper stage of studies, but remains the first national ritual of schooling.

Problem: in fifteen departments, colleges are still subject to a half-gauge, a measure that was put in place on April 22 to stem the Covid-19 epidemic.

Despite the improvement in the health situation, this restrictive measure is still in place. However, the impact is significant on the secondary school pupils of the territories concerned, that is to say more than 100,000 teenagers: because of the half-gauge, most of the face-to-face hours are allocated to homework at the table, in order to nourish continuous monitoring. , which represents 50% of the final mark. A puzzle for families and teachers, and also a source of inequalities between students.

According to our information, the Ministry of National Education, seized by associations of parents, is in favor of lifting the rule of the half-gauge in these fifteen departments.

And should push in this direction, in meetings scheduled for the week of May 23.

Because maintaining a localized restrictive measure no longer makes much sense in view of the figures for the epidemic in sharp decline: this Friday, there were only three departments left with an incidence rate greater than 200 per 100,000 inhabitants: Seine-Saint-Denis (215), Val-de-Marne (200) and Guyana (384).

But, we remind rue de Grenelle, "this type of decision is not taken at the level of the Ministry of Education but interministerial".

Thus, the half-gauge in colleges could be lifted by the end of May.

Teens in stress

In the meantime, schoolchildren and school heads grit their teeth. Example in Val-d'Oise. Antoine, 14, Coline's son, received his face-to-face schedule for the month at the beginning of May: seven days of school, the rest at home, remotely. “Almost every time, his class hour was an exam, a test or an oral to feed the grades for the third quarter. No choice: after May 21, the grades are stopped because they are the class councils, so it will no longer be possible for the teachers to organize checks, ”Coline groans. Usually calm, his son told him about his stress for the first time.

“Recently, instead of his English hour, he had an oral, which he had no interest in missing since it will be the only grade for the term in this subject.

He came to see me saying that he was not at ease, that he had trouble sleeping, ”continues the mother.

A situation all the more tense as Coline deplores having no visibility.

“My eldest is in terminal and is passing the baccalaureate.

For him, even if the year has been hectic, at least we have had fairly regular information on the weeks to come.

But in college, there was no communication ... except to say that the patent was maintained as if nothing had happened, while the year was also complicated!

"

A question of fairness

Same echoes from Séverine, a teacher in an establishment in the Aisne, another department concerned by the half-gauge. “The colleges are a bit forgotten at the end of the year. No one is asking for the patent to be canceled, it wouldn't make sense. But why not neutralize the third trimester for continuous monitoring? We must put all students on an equal footing! "

Because equity between students is the central subject for Radouane M'hamdi, secretary of SNPDEN-Unsa of Seine-Saint-Denis, a union of management staff, himself head of the establishment. “We have focused a lot on the bin in terms of hybrid-induced inequalities, but this is entirely valid for the patent. As it stands, in fifteen departments of the country, preparation for the tests cannot be the same for everyone. Especially since in college, the distance cannot work, the students are too young to have lessons behind a screen, ”he explains, indicating that“ families legitimately ask themselves many questions on this subject ”.
