After a week with a record number of infections, in which for the first time more than 30 thousand infected daily, Argentina became the
third country with the highest number of new cases
of coronavirus.
Thus, it surpassed the United States in this variable, taking the absolute numbers of the last week of the pandemic.
In the last 7 days - between Sunday 16 and Saturday 22 - the reports of the Ministry of Health reported
223,748 new positives
.
The average per day is
31,964
, the highest weekly record since the start of the health crisis.
According to data from the Our World in Data site, which compiles the official reports of each country, in the same period the United States had an average of 25,843 infected per day.

Argentina's figures today are only surpassed by two countries.
The first is India, which averages
263,722 cases.
Despite having registered a downward trend in recent days, infections remain at an overwhelming level: almost double those of all of South America (136,481) and quadruple those of Europe (64,767).
Brazil ranks second among the countries with the most new positives officially detected, with an average of
65,843
, 42% more than that accumulated by the countries that make up the European Union (46,145).
The figures for Argentina and the United States showed inverse curves in recent days.
Our country went, in one week, from a daily average of 22,111 (between May 9 and 15) to the current 31,964.
This represents
an increase of 44%
.
Instead, Joe Biden's administration went from reporting an average of 33,859 to 25,843, marking
a decline of 24%
.
The data reported by the Ministry of Health -based on the data reported by the 24 jurisdictions- were thickened this week by the "laundering" of cases by Formosa.
Due to the increase in cases, a new confinement with strong restrictions on circulation was imposed as of Saturday.

In just two days, it reported almost 9 thousand infections that had been detected in previous months, but had not reached the national system.
This generated crosses between the health authorities of the Nation and the province for the responsibilities in the delay.
However, even if these old data are discounted, the average for the last 7 days of the country would be
30,688
, so it would continue to be the third highest globally.
Another piece of information behind the contagion figures is the number of notified tests.
During the last week, before and after the new restrictions and the 9-day lockdown were announced, there was a
sharp jump
.
The average number of swabs uploaded to the national system was
110,438 per day
, which represents 40% more than in the previous 7 days.
This Saturday, in fact, a record number of 180,387 was reached and thus it was possible to lower the positivity - which measures how many of the people tested had the virus - to 17.8%, after a peak of 37.1 was reached in the second %.
Since the beginning of the health crisis, 13.1 million coronavirus tests have been carried out in Argentina Photo Juano Tesone
According to the latest official report, in the country there are
357,697 patients
with diagnosed covid-19, of which
6,138
developed serious
symptoms
and are admitted to intensive care.
The occupation of critical beds -for all pathologies- is at its peak at the national level
74.1%
, while in the AMBA it is at 77.1% (the record in a pandemic is 77.9%).
As
Clarín
reported
, Argentina is the country in South America with the most cases per inhabitant.
The strong rise in infections registered during the last two months has made Argentina climb 13 places in the ranking and go from 45 °, where it was before the start of the second wave,
to 32 °
.
In Latin America it is only surpassed by Aruba (11th), San Bartolomé (12th) and Panama (22nd).
And in America it is also preceded by the United States in the ranking (10th place).
With its acceleration, Argentina overtook Brazil, which now ranks 35th in the table.
