Singer Damiano David denies having taken any illicit substance after the broadcast of equivocal images on Saturday evening. With his group, Manes

“It feels like a stage of the Tour de France,” quipped a spectator on the internet.

It is almost 3 a.m. this Sunday when a journalist announces on Twitter that the Italian participants of Eurovision will undergo a drug test.

No question of cycling, but of the European song competition which saw Italy sacred a few hours earlier.

Right in front of the French candidate, Barbara Pravi, passed very close to warding off the French fate in this competition.

Coming second in the competition, could the Frenchwoman finally win?

This is one of the questions that arise this Sunday morning, after the incendiary controversy that is playing out in Rotterdam.

The singer of the Italian group Maneskin, winner of the competition, could have discredited himself by consuming cocaine live during the show.

The images are unequivocal… Or almost.

The singer Damiano David, leaning nose forward on the table of his team, seems to "snort" something.

He is alerted to a discreet help from one of his partners: the team is filmed live.

Quickly, the controversy swells in Rotterdam and on social networks, but Damiano David denies having taken any illicit substance.

“I don't take drugs.

Please, guys.

Don't say that really, no cocaine.

Please don't say that, ”he insisted at a press conference.

And the singer to evoke a "broken glass" that he would therefore have sought to collect.

The controversy should know a quick end, with the results of the drug tests to which the Italian participants agreed to undergo.

The song that carried them to the top of victory now seems ironic.

“Shut up and be good,” she said in French.
