(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 23 - "I never wanted to harm Diana in any way and I don't think we did": former BBC journalist Martin Bashir spoke to the Sunday Times - according to an independent investigation allegedly used deception to obtain a disputed interview with Diana Spencer in 1995 - defends her own actions. "We did everything, she said - from the timing of informing the palace, to the broadcast, to the content. My family and I loved them".
Bashir also addressed Princes William and Harry as "deeply sorry". In recent days Williama had said that Bashir's actions and the interview had made "an important contribution" to the end of the relationship between his parents and "had a significant bearing on his fear, paranoia and isolation" in the last years of the princess.
Bashir's statements come after former BBC general manager Lord Hall - in office at the time of the interview with Diana - resigned yesterday as president of the National Gallery after being heavily criticized by the investigation. (HANDLE).
