Statue in Santa Coloma de Gramenet
The dinosaur was supposed to be promoting a nearby cinema - but since this weekend the character has been in the headlines for something completely different.
Rescue workers have recovered the body of a 39-year-old in a paper mache structure in Santa Coloma de Gramenet.
According to local media, a father and son had noticed an unusual smell near the dinosaur on Saturday.
The man then tried to peek inside the figure and discovered the body.
Firefighters cut open the statue - but for the man any help came too late.
It was pinned upside down in the figure's leg.
According to media reports, his family had reported him missing.
However, the rescuers assume that the man was stuck in the dinosaur for several days.
How he managed to get inside the figure is still unclear.
The British Guardian quoted Mossos d'Esquadra, spokeswoman for the police in the suburb of Barcelona: “We found the body of a man in the leg of the dinosaur statue.
It is an accident, there is no evidence of violence.
The person presumably stepped into the statue's leg and got trapped.
It seems as if he wanted to get his cell phone back. ”The device was found inside the dinosaur.
An autopsy should now rule out the fact that there could be third-party negligence.
The exact cause of death has also not yet been determined.
The question of why the man who is said to be from the neighborhood did not call for help is also open.
The site is in a relatively busy area.
The statue that was supposed to represent a stegosaurus should now be removed.
Apparently the cinema that the character was originally supposed to advertise no longer exists.
