It is celebrated on May 28th for Hamburger Day, food took its name from the German city Hamburg and considered one of the most famous and requested foods in the world.

Today the hamburger, traditionally synonymous with beef, is declined in different forms: from the classic to the fish, veggie or gourmet version. The classic variants such as the cheeseburger or the bacon burger are still preferred, although there is no lack of food trends on the rise such as the pulled pork burger, with pork slowly cooked on the grill for lovers of smoked grilled taste, the avocado burger, a symbolic ingredient of millennials and synonymous with healthy and veggies (vegetarians).

The passion for hamburgers - say the operators - has led a trend that has seen this dish move from fast food to restaurants, to become one of the favorite dishes to be enjoyed at home thanks to food delivery. From an economic point of view, home orders for hamburgers in the last year, according to the Just Eat delivery, amounted to over 295,000 kg, with a growth of + 27% compared to 2019 and a passion that was also felt in the first four months of 2021, during which almost 135,000 kg were ordered. If you look at the cities that order this most symbolic food of American cuisine on the podium we find Rome: in fact, the capital has the highest number of orders, with almost 52,000 kg ordered in 2020 and a preference for tradition with cheeseburgers, bacon cheeseburger and chicken burger.

Second place for Genoa (24,499 kg) which, among others, has a passion for Chianina meat and avocado burger. Followed by Milan (15,939 kg) where the original tomino burger stands out and Bologna (12,987 kg) in which the variant with Angus meat stands out, the oldest and most bred breed of cattle in the world.
