Netflix would be willing to expand its range of action in the video game sector, already manned by the big names in technology.
According to reports from The Information website, the Los Gatos company is looking for an executive in this field, a sign that it could deal with its own content outside of cinema and television.
According to the source, the streaming platform has already contacted several managers, veterans of the sector, for a possible entry into the company, within a division created precisely to open up to the new market. In reality, the company would not even be new to the world of video games, or at least part of its logic, having contributed to the creation of 'Stranger Things: The Game', based on the exclusive series of the same name and introducing, in 'Black Mirror: Bandersnatch ', an interactive viewing mode, where the viewer makes decisions during the film. For The Information, there is the possibility that Netflix offers a surcharge on the normal subscription in which to also include a video game package to be enjoyed online, thanks to the cloud.
An idea that giants like Microsoft and Google have already developed, with different results. On the one hand the success of Xbox Game Pass, on the other the half failure of Stadia, launched in 2019 and even subject to disposal, due to the suboptimal response of subscribers. It is not confirmed that Netflix will officially expand into the gaming sector but considering the over 200 million subscribers (37 million of which arrived in 2020 alone), such a solution could have fertile ground for the coffers of Reed Hastings.
