Burger King reacts and opens the first branch with a purely vegetarian range in North Rhine-Westphalia.
As the BMEL Nutrition Report 2021 (BMEL: Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture) reports, the number of vegan and vegetarian people has doubled since the beginning of the pandemic.
At the beginning of 2020, five percent of the German population had a meat-free diet; this year, ten percent are relying on a vegetarian and two percent on a purely plant-based diet. *

Burger King announced in a press release that customers in the Cologne branch can only order “plant-based meat” and “product innovations” such as a “plant-based long chicken patty”.
This is not yet available in the other branches.

The pop-up branch can be found at Schildergasse 114 in Cologne (North Rhine-Westphalia).
Burger King already offers meat-free alternatives in the regular range, for example the chicken-free nuggets and a plant-based whopper.
