The historic channels (TF 1, France 2, France 3, Canal +, M 6 and Arte) broadcast less fiction last year with in particular 787 dedicated evenings, i.e. 27 less in one year and the lowest level since 2010. “The Covid-19 epidemic has had an impact on fiction programming, in particular due to the sharp drop in advertising revenue, which has led some channels to make significant savings on their cost of grid ”, underlines the CNC. Among the good students, France 3 (176 fictional evenings) dominates again ahead of TF 1 (148) which, specifies the CNC "has reduced its offer essentially in the 2nd quarter of 2020 to adapt its programming in parallel to the Covid epidemic". Next come France 2 (142), M 6 (136), Canal + (97) and Arte (88).
No more reruns:
In this logic of savings, films in reruns have sometimes been preferred.
Unpublished series or telefilms (70% of the total supply in hourly volume) have shown a historic drop for ten years in the first part of the evening, with the exception of Canal +, in favor of reruns whose volume has increased. a jump of 33.8%.
French fictions are still popular:
We no longer stop the tricolor fictions! And the trend is confirmed: they represented 45.6% of the offer and largely supplanted American productions (27.8%), which has fallen by 40% in ten years. Last year, France 3 remained the main broadcaster of French formats at night, ahead of France 2 and TF 1. Cocorico, they recorded 95 of the 100 best fiction audiences on television last year, “a result that 'had not been achieved for at least 15 years,' applauds the CNC. So forgot the time when the super heroes from across the Atlantic - "Dr House", "Mentalist" or other "Experts" were invincible. Forward series and creation ...
They remain the favorite format, monopolizing more than 82% of evenings dedicated to fiction. In 2020, viewers were able to follow 138 series at 9 p.m., including 63 French women and 75 foreigners. Among them, the chains bet on 55 new proposals, half of which were 100% tricolor, from “H24” (TF 1) to “Prière d'enququête” (France 3), “Une île”, “Dérapages” on Arte or "Validated" on Canal +. The prize goes to France 2 which has programmed the most original series made in France including "César Wagner", "A beautiful story", "La garçonne" or "Laetitia". Among the novelties, the CNC has counted 14 original creations and 7 adaptations of foreign formats… And the channels no longer rely solely on thrillers. “They are more adventurous. Production has not declined:
Unlike documentaries and recordings of live shows more impacted by the epidemic, due to a lack of travel and open rooms, the production of fictions has not declined. If the shootings were interrupted from March 17 to May 10, 2020, they have since resumed.
