(ANSA) - WASHINGTON, MAY 25 - Texas is becoming more and more land of 'cowboys': the state parliament, controlled by the Republicans, has approved a law that allows you to carry a hidden weapon without a license, training and controls on the buyer. Only the signature of Governor Greg Abbott, also of the Grand Old Party, is missing, but he has already said that he is ready to promulgate the provision.
The new law allows anyone over the age of 21 to walk around with a firearm, unless they are affected or subject to legal restrictions. But it reserves the right to commercial establishments to prohibit weapons on their property and provides for federal controls for the purchase of certain types of weapons.
Organizations protest against the violence of armed fire, according to which 'deregulation' will increase the dangers for citizens and also for the police. But supporters of the turn argue that the law will allow Texans to defend themselves better in public and abolish unnecessary limits to the constitutional right to bear arms.
Texas, where there are over 1.6 million gun-holders, has been the scene of various mass shootings in recent years, including at a Walmart convenience store in El Paso, a Sutherland Springs exhibition, and a school near Houston.
