The comedian and actor Markus Maria Profitlich has Parkinson's disease.
He was diagnosed with the disease four years ago.
Now he has spoken to the magazine “Bunte” about his experiences.
"When I have a good day, I can get up easily and the pain is not so great," said the comedian in an interview.
“Sometimes it hurts when you are lying down.
Then I drag myself through the day and hope that the pills work quickly. "
His wife Ingrid Einfeldt is his greatest support in all of this.
“I'm glad I have it.
It's a godsend, ”said Profitlich.
However, his marriage also suffers from the diagnosis.
“Our marriage is strained.
Because of my illness, I rob my wife of life that she could use differently.
And my daughter too, ”said the 61-year-old.
"You actually plan to feed your family and be there for them, and instead sit around doing nothing because the illness means you can't do anything else."
Despite his Parkinson's disease, Profitlich has continued to work in recent years.
The start of his anniversary tour "The best of 35 years" was last postponed from January to the end of June 2021 due to the corona pandemic.
Parkinson's is a disease of the central nervous system.
In the process, brain cells that produce dopamine die.
The symptoms of the disease are varied.
Movement sequences can become slower over time, up to the point of movement blockage.
Those affected suffer from muscle stiffness, tremors at rest, rigid facial expressions or imbalance.
Difficulty swallowing and speaking are also possible symptoms.
About 80 percent of those affected have Idiopathic Parkinson's Syndrome (IPS).
Information can be found on the Parkinson's Society or Parkinson's Association website.
