They called for clarification on how exactly the African American Andrew Brown Jr.

was killed in a police operation.

Just one day after ex-police officer Derek Chauvin was convicted in the case of the killed African American George Floyd, hundreds of protesters took to the streets in the small town of Elizabeth City, North Carolina.

In peaceful protests on Monday, two black women were hit by a car during the demonstration.

The Elizabeth City police announced.

Police said the 42-year-olds were caught in a vehicle driven by 41-year-old Lisa O'Quinn from Greenville.

The victims were treated in a hospital and have already been released.

O'Quinn, who is white, is now charged with attempted homicide and reckless driving, among other things.

The police are still investigating whether the driver can also be charged with a hate crime.

She remains in detention until her hearing on Thursday.

Demonstrations have been taking place in the state regularly for a month.

The family lawyers of the slain Andrew Brown Jr. accused the police of "executing" the man.

The attorneys stated that an independent autopsy revealed that Andrew Brown Jr. was shot in the back of the head.

A total of five shots hit him while he was in the car.

Four shots hit his arm, the shot in the back of the head was ultimately fatal.

According to local media reports, the unarmed family man Brown got into his car during the search and wanted to drive away.

Thereupon was shot.
