(ANSAMed) - BEIRUT, MAY 26 - In the rubble of a suburb of Damascus, destroyed by government bombings after having been a stronghold of the anti-regime armed uprising for years, today Syrian ilraìs Bashar al Assad voted for the presidential elections.

The Syrian government agency Sana announces, by publishing photos and videos, that Assad and his wife Asma voted at the urneaperte in the seat of the municipality of Duma, the main suburb of Damasco in the tormented region of Ghuta, marked by the anti-government insurrection since 2012.

Assad has responded to US and EU criticism of the elections by labeling them as worthless. "Your opinions are worth zero," Assad said after voting. The US and the EU yesterday branded the elections as "a farce, neither just nor equitable".
