The journalists of Arte went on strike this Wednesday, May 26, at the call of the unions and the Society of Journalists of the channel.
They deplore the establishment of a system which would limit the work of freelance journalists to a maximum of 60 days per year.
An “
arbitrary
”
limit
, which leads to the “
insecurity
” of freelance journalists and intermittents, according to a press release.
The editors deplore a gap between a channel which is placed in its programs as "
white knight of the defense of social rights
".
While internally they denounce a company which "
treats its freelancers and contract workers as an adjustment variable
".
The company suffers - like all public broadcasting - from budget cuts.
In 2021, the channel's budget has been cut by 1.9 million euros and falls to 278 million.
