(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 26 - The European Union has asked the Brussels court to impose a maxi fine on AstraZenec for its delays in delivering vaccines against Covid.
Reuters reports on its website. According to the lawyers who submitted the request, the aim is to obtain 10 euros per dose for each day of delay. The EU is also demanding a € 10 million fine from AstraZeneca for any breach of the contract that the judge is able to ascertain. The verdict is expected next month.
AstraZeneca has committed a "manifest violation" of the contract for the delivery of anti-Covid vaccines to EU member states, with "50 million doses" being diverted from the Dutch Halix plant in Leiden "to third countries".
This is the accusation brought against the Anglo-Swedish pharmaceutical company by the lawyer Me Rafaël Jeffareli, who defends the interests of the member countries and the EU Commission in the legal battle that started this morning before the Belgian first instance justice. (HANDLE).
