It is no longer surprising that designer pieces enter the museum through the front door to be exhibited as works. That these creators and architects design customary furniture and accessories for institutions is less well known. And yet ...


There are a thousand reasons to celebrate the reopening of the Louvre, but there is one more unexpected: the discovery of exclusive furniture signed by the rare Martin Szekely.

This special order, intended for the public and reception staff, has just been installed here and there in the halls of the institution.

Made-to-measure which aims to coexist with the parts already in place and not to replace them.

Several of them date from the 19th century and, later, Charlotte Perriand, Pierre Paulin or Jean-Michel Wilmotte, among others, will largely pave the way for contemporary design for public institutions.

In 2018, the Paris museum launched a call for applications for the design and supply of customary furniture.

At the end of the competition, the proposal from designer Martin Szekely and the company Chastagner, based in Sarthe, was accepted.
