Due to the intense smoke coming out of a flue in the Uffizi in Florence there was a problem with the boiler, no fire started.
The evacuated visitors have already returned.
This is what was then explained by the director of the museum EikeSchmidt and by the firefighters, at the end of the investigations carried out by the firefighters.
The release of the smoke had also led to the evacuation, as a precaution, of the famous museum by the same gallery.
"After routine maintenance of a boiler engine more diesel than normal was burned which caused this further smoke emission. The black smoke you all saw caused the traffic police, whom I thank, they called the fire brigade and we evacuated 400 people in 4 minutes, "explained Schmidt. "There is no more smoke and we are happy that there were no dangers, but for a structure as sensitive as the Uffizi it is right to intervene with the utmost strength because every minute counts".
