Also because it is not a conventional medical measure, patients often have to bear acupuncture costs themselves - but not always.
The consumer advice center informs that, since 2007, statutory health insurance companies have covered the costs of acupuncture treatment for chronic back pain in the lumbar spine and knee joint if the pain has persisted for at least six months.
Many health insurance companies would also bear the costs of treatment for other diseases, it said.
