(ANSA) - BERLIN, MAY 26 - The environmental organization Greenpeace in Germany has staged a protest action against Volkswagen, stealing the keys of several hundred new vehicles from a fleet of cars destined for export in the Emden port.

Die Zeit reports it. The goal of the environmental organization was to draw attention to a quick exit from the combustion engine. A yellow banner with the oil-leaking Volkswagen logo was spread on several cars, reports Dpa.

According to Greenpeace, 20 activists allegedly stole about 1000 pairs of car keys, while for the police it was 15 activists who climbed over the fence and stole 3-400 pairs of keys. In any case, it was not possible to move the vehicles as desired.

The Port of Emden is the main sorting port used by Volkswagen. The police investigate for theft and homicide violation. "This port is the stage for Volkswagen's hypocrisy. With its policy it makes a decisive contribution to CO2 emissions in transport, as the second largest car manufacturer in the world," said Greenpeace spokesman Benjamin Stephan. (HANDLE).
