In May 2021, the film "Army of the Dead" held its first place in the Netflix Top 10.
Is it so successful that there will be a second part?
For "Army of the Dead" * Netflix has achieved several stars.
In addition to the "Justice League" director Zack Snyder, Dave Bautista and Matthias Schweighöfer were allowed to star in front of the camera.
The latter was particularly well received by the audience.
Many critics praise Schweighöfer for his appearance in the film.
In addition, countless fans share individual pictures and clips from the scenes of the German actor on Twitter.
The zombie cracker seems to be well received.
Since the film was released on May 14, 2021, it has been in 1st place in the Netflix Top 10 (as of May 27, 2021).
A success that would speak for a second part.
But is Netflix even planning a sequel?
We reveal what is known about "Army of the Dead 2" so far.

"Army of the Dead" on Netflix: These arguments speak for and against a sequel
Anyone who has seen "Army of the Dead" already knows that Las Vegas will be razed to the ground with the help of a bomb at the end of the film. There is a good reason for this: everyone in the city has been turned into zombies. In order to prevent the total apocalypse, the American government had to opt for this radical solution. They were able to destroy a large part of the undead in this way. However, Vanderohe (Omari Hardwick) survived the bombing. With the money he found in a safe, he wants to make a good life for himself. Only in a private jet does he notice that he was bitten by a zombie in Las Vegas. Gradually he turns himself into an undead. The audience does not find out how Vanderohe's story continues. It seems like the makers are saving the rest of the story for a sequel. So there is a basis for a second part.
Against a sequel, the fact that the majority of the main characters loved died in the course of the story speaks against it.
Another film, for example, would have to be made without Dave Bautista and Matthias Schweighöfer.
Only Kate (Ella Purnell) survived the final helicopter crash.
It is also unclear what became of her friend Geeta (Huma Qureshi).
Along with Zombie Vanderohe, they could be the only three characters to reappear in a sequel.
The departure of the big stars like Bautista and Schweighöfer may be a reason for many viewers not to concern themselves with a second part.

Should there be a second part of "Army of the Dead", actor Omari Hardwick (left) will probably be there again.
Matthias Schweighöfer (right) is unlikely to appear again.

Army of the Dead 2: Does Netflix even want to make a sequel?
One thing is certain: the “Army of the Dead” universe will continue to grow. As
reported by
IndieWire
magazine, among others
, Netflix has already confirmed the anime prequel
“Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas”
. In addition, there will be a prequel with the title
“Army of Thieves”
this year
, which will be devoted exclusively to the history of Schweighöfer's character Ludwig Dieter. There is still no talk of a continuation of the main story. Presumably, Netflix would like to first evaluate the audience numbers and reviews of the first part. If both are negative, a second part may be deleted.
Regarding the reviews, a look at sites like
IMDb
makes
you think: "Army of the Dead" received a lot of praise, but the film only achieved
5.9 out of a possible 10 stars
. It looks a little better on
Rotten Tomatoes
. The viewer score there is currently
76 percent
(as of May 27, 2021). If you only look at the works of Zack Snyder, you will quickly see that this is definitely not his best film. In comparison, “Justice League” received, for example, 8.1 stars on
IMDb
and 94 percent on
Rotten Tomatoes
(as of May 27, 2021).
