From July 2021, a new regulation will come into force at DHL: Customers with a storage contract will no longer have to ring the bell for DHL couriers.

Bonn - In times of the corona pandemic, many customers have already got used to the fact that parcel delivery at the front door is also different.

After all, it should be as secure as possible for both sides and therefore contactless.

But from July of this year a new regulation will apply at DHL.

It allows parcel deliverers to forego ringing the doorbell altogether in future.

The DHL couriers no longer even have to check whether customers are at home.

DHL: That will change from July 2021 when handing over parcels

In the future, DHL will simply place parcels at the storage location - without trying to hand over the parcel to the customer personally at the front door. Parcel carriers no longer have to ring the bell. However, this only applies to those customers who have specified a storage location. This can be the carport, the stairwell or a hiding place in the garden - whatever the customer has specified for it. This also has advantages: if you are not at home, you don't have to laboriously pick up the parcel from the nearest DHL shop, but can easily find it at your personal storage location.

DHL now uses this storage location permanently thanks to the new delivery regulation.

From the parcel deliverer's point of view, the storage agreement is valid until it is canceled by the customer.

Conversely, this means that those who want to receive parcels personally in the future must delete their storage location.

DHL: This is how you proceed if you want to receive parcels in person

In this case, consumers should send a letter to DHL by mid-June stating that the parcel delivery company should ring the bell in future.

To do this, customers must first register with DHL and then fill out an online form.

By the way: Those who register online will in future only receive all notifications by email.

To avoid this, customers can also print out the form and send it to DHL by post.

DHL customers receive notification by email or card in their mailboxes

In any case, the delivery service will continue to notify its customers as soon as a parcel is waiting for them.

Depending on the setting, consumers receive a digital notification or receive the information by card in the mailbox.

For those who have a safe storage location, the new regulation from DHL can be an advantage: the parcel is deposited, residents are not disturbed by the doorbell and the handover is contactless - to protect the customer and the parcel deliverer.

But there are also critical voices.

For DHL itself, the new procedure has one main advantage: it saves a lot of time.

The delivery service is considered one of the winners of the Corona crisis.
