Novak Djokovic is uncertain about his participation in the Tokyo Olympic Games.

To 'cool' the Serbian is the increasingly probable absence of the public.

"I intend to play in the Olympics if spectators are allowed. If not, I will think twice before participating," he said after qualifying for the semifinals of the Belgrade tournament.

The organizers of the Tokyo Olympics have already banned foreign spectators and a decision on the presence of local audiences is expected by the end of June.

Djokovic is not the first tennis star to express doubts about his participation in the Olympics. Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams recently said they are unsure of participating in the Games. And Roger Federer is also hesitant, like Japanese stars Naomi Osaka and Kei Nishikori. Several parts of Japan are in a state of emergency due to an increase in coronavirus infections, and the Japanese public is broadly opposed to hosting the Games this summer. Medical groups have warned that the mass event could introduce new variants to Japan and strain medical resources as the country battles a new wave of the virus.
