Almost five million viewers followed Petra Gerster on her last "heute" broadcast. She has been the presenter of the ZDF news program since 1998.

On Wednesday evening, ZDF journalist Petra Gerster hosted the program “heute” for the last time, with around five million viewers watching her.

After the TV news on Italy to India, the 66-year-old addressed her audience on her own behalf: “That's it for me.

I was able to provide you with the news of the day at this point for almost 23 years. «In the second alone, 4.59 million people tuned in, with 3sat there were a good 380,000.

The total was 20.7 percent.

The moderator thanked the audience for their trust.

Gerster concluded with a popular quote from the former Frankfurt soccer coach Dragoslav Stepanovic: "Lebbe goes weider".

The cinematic compilation of her career also noted that the presenter had "preceded" gendering with asterisks.

Regarding the bouquet of flowers presented to her, Gerster said that it was from "colleagues - from everyone".

The journalist Gerster was born in Worms on the Rhine and after studying Slavic and German studies, she worked for the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger among others.
