Lara Arreguiz's
family
criminally denounced the three hospitals that the 22-year-old went to for assistance before dying last Friday from coronavirus, after having waited for a bed lying on the floor of a corridor.
"What we present is a
criminal complaint for murder with eventual intent and abandonment of a person
against all the management personnel, medical personnel, nurses and security personnel of the three hospitals in which he had to make a sad path with his health picture , Lara, "said Diego Lorefice, the family's lawyer, in dialogue with LT 10.
The
medical institutions involved
are "the Protomédico Recreo Hospital, the new Iturraspe Hospital and the old Iturraspe Hospital, which is where he ends up dying," Lorefice explained.
The last two hospitals are located in the capital Santa Fe.
The lawyer accompanied Claudia Sánchez, Lara's mother, on Wednesday to file a complaint with the
Homicide Section of the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC)
.
For now, the
evidence gathering
stage has begun
and, according to the lawyer, the prosecutor has already ordered a series of measures to continue with the investigation.
The family is also waiting for the corresponding autopsy to be carried out in order to dispose of the body of the young woman, who
belonged to a group at risk for her diabetes
.
"It is a mistake of empathy"
Rodrigo Mediavilla, director of Third Level of the Ministry of Health of Santa Fe, asked this Wednesday
"forgiveness to the family"
and considered that "the photo that has been viralized is an error of empathy typical of the hospital."
"The photo that has been viralized
is an empathy error
typical of the hospital and we have already spoken to correct it. But it is an error typical of the system in which we live. The doctors are so tired, so stressed, so collapsed ... I don't want to I apologize for the error, I assume it as my own and I apologize to the family, "said the official, in dialogue with LT 10.
Then, he clarified that "this situation has not been repeated in other parts of the province" and said that the Ministry will
not apply an administrative summary to the institutions
or the professionals involved.
"We are doctors, we are human and
we make mistakes,
" said Mediavilla.
Lara's passage through the three hospitals
On Sunday, May 16, the family decided to take Lara to the Protomédico Hospital, as her mother told Aire de Santa Fe: “They told us it could be Covid, but at that time they did not have the means to treat her and they
sent us to home
”.
On Monday, the 17th, they returned to the place, where they swabbed her, performed plates and
prescribed antibiotics
.
Again at home, she felt bad again, so they decided to take her to the new Iturraspe Hospital.
The woman reported that she was
waiting for hours in that corridor
.
"I understand the sanitary collapse, but it hurts me to have seen her lying on the floor without breathing and that no one does anything," Lara's mother said.
At
the insistence and despair
of her mother, Lara was admitted and the procedures were carried out so that this admission was in a conditioned area for patients with Covid in the old Iturraspe Hospital.
When they were going to transfer her by ambulance, Sánchez was able to have the last contact with her daughter.
Then it was isolated for being close contact.
It was her father, who had already had coronavirus, who was able to visit her and see her through a window.
On Wednesday the 19th she was informed that she was going to be transferred to an intermediate bed, where she
was given drip insulin
.
A day later, her blood glucose was under control, but complications arose with her respiratory symptoms, as her lungs were severely affected by the virus.
They transferred her to an intensive care bed and on Friday morning,
after suffering three cardiac arrests, she died
.
