In the midst of the second wave of coronavirus that forced a strict confinement to try to reduce infections, the United States Chamber of Commerce in Argentina asked President Joe Biden to

take the country into account for the shipment of vaccines

.

Entrepreneurs at AmCham sent a letter to Charge d'Affaires MaryKay Carsson and other State Department officials after Biden announced that they will release millions of doses.

"The United States Chamber of Commerce in Argentina, AmCham, asked the United States government to consider Argentina as a recipient country for vaccines against COVID-19 that its president, Joe Biden, recently announced," says the text released that entity.

They specified that "through a letter sent to Charge d'Affaires MaryKay Carsson, and other State Department officials, the Chamber offered its support and collaboration, to seek mechanisms to speed up the vaccination process for all Argentines."

The text, signed by the CEO of AmCham, Alejandro Díaz, asks the US Government to take Argentina into account "to

receive donation of vaccine doses or another mechanism

that meets the objective of having the largest number of doses in the smallest possible time ".

"As representatives of a large part of the private sector in Argentina, we make all our capacities and resources available to both governments to be part of the solution in this humanitarian crisis," Diaz concluded.

A little over a week ago, Biden announced that it will send about 20 million vaccines against the coronavirus abroad at the end of June to cover part of the international demand and for the first time they will be approved brands in the United States such as Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson .

In the meeting I had in Quito with the US authorities, I made Argentine planes available to send the vaccines to our country to be distributed by your government.

Today they pledged to closely follow the offer as they move forward with logistics. Https://t.co/znOkQo3fSE

So far, the United States government has shipped about 5 million doses of AstraZeneca to Mexico and Canada.

At the end of April, the White House announced that it was going to release 60 million AstraZeneca to other countries when they became available, that is when the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved that vaccine, which has not yet received the green light in the United States.

Added to this figure are the 20 million brands with already authorized use that Biden announced today and that will be available at the end of June.

The businessmen's request is in addition to the one that the Argentine government itself formulated in the last hours, through the negotiations led by Foreign Minister Felipe Solá and the Argentine ambassador to the United States, Jorge Argüello.
