From 2026, all primary school children should be able to attend all-day care after school.
The Federal Council welcomes a corresponding law that provides every child with a legal right to care and support for at least eight hours a day - even during school holidays.
However, the federal states would need more money for implementation, they demanded in a critical statement on Friday.
They fear that after start-up financing in Berlin, they will be left with the costs in the long term.
The regional chamber therefore demands that the federal government not only financially support construction measures, but also invest in equipment and bear part of the ongoing operating costs.

In their statement, the federal states demand that the federal government contribute up to 90 percent of the total volume of public funding.
The federal draft law provides for only 50 percent here, which corresponds to financial aid of up to 3.5 billion euros.
The law is expected to be on the Bundestag agenda on June 9th.
After the adoption in parliament, it then goes through the Federal Council again.
