TURIN - The victory of the Måneskin at the Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam brings the singing competition back to Italy after more than 30 years: a call will soon open to host the 2022 edition and all cities will be able to apply. And on social media some mayors have already expressed their support: "That of the Måneskin was a fantastic victory - tweeted the mayor of Rome Virginia Raggi - Rome is proud of its boys. Next year Italy will host the Eurovision Song Contest 2022. Rome is the perfect stage to relaunch the challenge ". Even the director of Rai1, Stefano Coletta, in an interview with Corriere della Sera commented: "Thinking about the Måneskin and being a Roman, I imagine Rome as a city on the bed of this event".
The mayor of Turin, Chiara Appendino, immediately mobilized and, after congratulating the Roman band, announced via twitter: "Let's start working on Turin's candidacy today!". The first pentastellate town also has the support of the Lega councilor Francesca Parlacino and Stefano Lo Russo, leader of the Democratic Party and candidate in the next municipal elections.
In a post entrusted to Facebook sent a few minutes after the victory in Rotterdam, Pierfrancesco Maran, city planning councilor of the municipality of Milan, combined his congratulations to the Måneskin with the wish that the Lombard capital could host the next edition of Eurovision: "We are crazy but different from them ... great Måneskin! And now we hope that the next edition will be in Milan!". Pierfrancesco Majorino, MEP and former councilor also hopes: "But to nominate Milan to host the next edition of Eurovision? - he wrote on social media - It would be a really good idea". The Milanese councilor for culture Filippo del Corno is even more convinced of this: "Milan is the capital of the Italian record industry. This is where music is produced and consumed".
In the Lombard capital, the hope of organizing the international singing event is also linked to the fact that the previous Italian editions of Eurovision were held in Rome, in 1991, and in Naples in 1965.
Other cities have also come forward, such as Pesaro, Reggio Emilia and Bologna: the latter seems to have a few more cards, if only for the fact that for Unesco it is a "creative city of music". But what are the requirements to host the singing festival? First of all you need to have an arena or a closed structure (therefore no stadiums) with a capacity of at least 10 thousand seats and a height of 18 meters; convenient connections to the international airport and adequate accommodation capacity.
The mayor Raggi, therefore, can count on the Palalottomatica, on the Fiera di Roma or on the Foro Italico area, tennis permitting; on the other hand, it cannot host the festival at the Auditorium Parco della Musica, except for its size. The Municipality of Milan, on the other hand, could make the Assago Forum or the CityLife hub available with a message of hope: where people are vaccinated now, music could be made next year. Finally, in Turin, the PalaAlpitour is the largest structure capable of hosting the event.
While waiting for the official announcement, all that remains is to hope for the best locations and, why not, start betting on the names of the conductors. The network and social networks nominate Alessandro Cattelan, from September to Rai1, but also the female duo Andrea Delogu and Ema Stockolma; and there are those who hope in Chiara Ferragni and Fedez, the famous couple all over the world.
