I'm just asking

Is this the next health hazard that threatens us?

We have not yet recovered from the damage of the corona plague, and reports of a new outbreak are already beginning in the world - and this time a strain of bird flu.

What exactly does this mean and do we have cause for concern?

The whole world is still preoccupied with the spread and damage caused by the corona plague.

In some countries more writers are dying, and in other places trying to figure out where this blow came from.

But while all this is happening, reports of a new health threat are also beginning to trickle in.

Another virus, a strain of bird flu, is slowly being identified on the next infection map.

Do we have cause for concern?

Where did the new virus come from?

Throughout 2020, there have been reports of the global spread of the H5N8 avian influenza virus, which has caused ongoing outbreaks with significant mortality of farm and wild birds in at least 46 countries across Europe, Asia and Africa.

Another bunny just asked:

The H5N8 strain is a subspecies of avian influenza virus that was identified decades ago.

At the same time, what characterizes the eruption that began in 2020 is the unusual attraction and the fact that it has already moved between many countries and led to the death or slaughter of millions of birds around the world.

Since the end of 2020 alone, more than 1,700 outbreaks of the virus have been reported in animals.

This is not the first time an outbreak of bird flu has made headlines.

The initial detection of avian influenza virus was detected in China in 2010. Another outbreak was documented in 2014 in Korea, when the H5N8 subtype led to widespread infection of ducks.

Could the new virus infect humans as well?

The corona has taught us the importance of optimally monitoring and controlling virus infections that break out in the morning news in order to eradicate them as quickly as possible, and prevent them from spreading on a global scale.

The main concern is of course the transmission of this virus or similar from animals to humans and its potential impact.

Indeed, in parallel with reports of avian morbidity, there have also been reports of human-to-animal transmission (a type of infection known as zoonotic infection).

The infections were mainly detected among agricultural workers who were in close proximity to sick birds, of which seven verified cases were identified in late February 2021 in Russia.

So is there cause for concern?

The reassuring news for now is that the symptoms of the verified patients were relatively mild and did not require hospitalization and did not lead to complications, although it should be noted that this assessment is based on very limited data from verified patients with the virus.

Also, so far no direct human-to-human transmission cases have been identified.

At present, it seems that the degree of risk among the general public is estimated to be very low.

At the same time, the rapid global spread of the virus in the world, along with its proven ability to work between species and humans, should certainly be a priority for global health policy makers at this time, and draw the lessons learned from the recent epidemic.
