Sony recently revealed some info on PS5 sales to date.
Although the supply is limited, the console will soon hit an important brand.
Since the release in November 2020, more and more people have been able to buy the PlayStation 5 *.
Even so, it will be some time before Sony's next-gen console is permanently available.
The company even assumes that the PS5 shortage will continue until 2022.
Despite the limited supply, Sony has now announced excellent sales figures for the months after the market launch.
As part of an investor event, President and CEO Jim Ryan gave an insight into the profits to date (via
VGC
).
He explained that the PS5 expected already in June this year
breakeven
would reach - and has been for about half a year since the release.
The standard edition of the console would have made up a large part of the sales.
For 2022, Sony expects a slight increase in sales of the digital edition of the PS5.

According to Ryan, other areas of the PlayStation business model are becoming increasingly important in addition to console sales.

Jim Ryan revealed the causes of the PS5 shortage to the Washington Post earlier this year.
One of the reasons is a global semiconductor shortage that is slowing down console production.
To counteract this, Sony is apparently planning to make some changes to the hardware.
However, these only affect the components used - new functions are therefore not to be expected.
