When everyone raises prices, we found a pampering hotel with a pool for NIS 700 per couple per night

A holiday in Nazareth is not the first thing that will jump to your head these days, but if you put the stigmas aside for a moment, you will understand that it has a lot of special things (and not just at Christmas), including a hotel with a pool at a good price for the season.

Holiday in Nazareth - Golden Crown Hotel, the original Nazareth sesame, Nazareth beer, a barbecue trip (Doron Pinkas)

Let's be honest - Nazareth is not the first vacation destination that came to mind when hotels reopened after the Corona.

My experience of the ancient Arab city is likely to change your mind.

The highlight is the hotel to which I was invited (due diligence) for a pampering weekend - Golden Crown on Mount of Beatitudes, a mountain located south of the city of Nazareth, towering almost 400 meters above sea level and overlooking a mesmerizing view of the Jezreel Valley and Mount Tabor.

The Jumping Mountain, for those wondering about it, is according to tradition the mountain from which the worshipers of the synagogue in Nazareth wanted to cast Jesus when he hinted at being the Messiah - an interesting anecdote he shared with us Sam Hakim, a Nazarene guide who gave us a tour of the city

We started the tour with him at the Basilica of the Nazareth of Nazareth, a small shop that produces natural sesame candies - and ended at the Miriam Spring, where according to Christian tradition the angel Gabriel announced to the Virgin Mary that she was pregnant.

Bassam shared with us details about the history of the city and the characters who shaped it and all this with a sense of humor that made me - a chronic rolling eye from guides' jokes - laugh out loud.

Sesame, opened

Did you know that there is a logic behind the choice of "Sesame, Open" as the slogan for entering the Treasure Cave in the stories of "A Thousand and One Nights"?

Walid Abu Sinai, who owns an original sesame in Nazareth, explained to us that sesame makes an explosive sound when it is ripe, a voice that reminded the storytellers of the sound of opening a lock and hence the choice of sesame.

Walid has a small (and crazy) store in Nazareth where he produces natural, non-industrialized and preservative-free sesame candies.

He gave us a glimpse into the preparation process in the kitchen - which can be viewed through a large glass window from the store - and pampered us with a taste of sesame, peanut and sunflower seeds.

Walla is delicious.

Definitely worth a jump if you are in the area.

The Essence of the Essential Nazareth (Doron Pinkas, Gary Reznikovsky)

Nazareth beer

At noon Bassam takes us for a local beer, "Nazareth Beer".

The brewery was founded in 2016 by two partners, Amir Iluti and Basel Masad, who generally came from the high-tech world, worked together as engineers at the same company and were looking for something to get them off the screens.

Their love of beer led them to study the field, visit European breweries and open a brewery with a volume of 100 liters, which expanded in just three years tenfold to 1,000 liters.

We arrived at a place in the Salsian neighborhood and drank a cold and refreshing beer in front of the spectacular view of the Dome of the Gospel Church.

On the way we also received a short tour of the factory, where you too can visit by appointment and cost 35 shekels for a tour + tasting.

The place is open on Saturdays with a promise to open also on Fridays "with a return to routine".

A trip on the grill

If we started with dessert, we should finish with the main course.

Happily, not that it mattered much, our day trip fell on International Day without diet.

Yes, there is such a day and if you missed it then it is a pity, because we realized that it is the only day of the year that calories are not counted.

What a pleasure it was to celebrate this day with Rodrigo Cardoso, a tour guide of Brazilian descent who combined his love of hiking with Brazilian culture, characterized by a long sitting on the grill alongside selected chunks of meat.

In "Trip on the Grill", Rodrigo leads the travelers on various routes in the country of their choice, when at the end of the route he hosts them for a meal based on the purity of Brazilian cuisine.

Since we had already done our route - we got straight to the food.

We met Rodrigo and his charming staff at the Birdy National Park, which is a short drive from Nazareth.

We sat down in the parking lot area for picnics and opened the meal with chilled caperina alongside traditional Brazilian cuisine dishes like “hacker-peter”, light meat tartare, and potato salad in a homemade mayonnaise sauce.

Very quickly the chunks of meat began to flow to the table - and they also did not stop flowing, until suffocated we were able to signal with our hand for Rodrigo to stop.

We were pampered there by Electra with lemon seasoning - a juicy piece of meat soaked 24 hours in a traditional seasoning to southern Brazil (wow!), Plank steak - or by its local name "Perladinia" (God help us) and picania - the Brazilian meat queen (Tanza). If the liquid dripping from the steak is the hemoglobin protein that has drained from it (this is not guys blood, a common mistake) or mucus that we have not stopped pouring throughout the meal.

On a full stomach we discovered that “A Trip to the Grill” is an enterprise born out of the Corona, after Rodrigo - like many others - lost his source of livelihood in the foreign tourism industry and was forced to do so immediately. The improvisation worked well for him: "I thought for a long time how to reinvent myself and when I found myself without employment, I realized I had to do something," Rodrigo told us, "I went out with a few friends a week for Israel. To the Galilee landscape - my hometown - I invited my friends to come to us for refreshments and decided to pamper them with a traditional Brazilian fire owner - food I grew up with. After everyone ate, they said to me: 'Why don't you do it? Why not offer it as part of your trips? ' All this time I was thinking about what I have to offer to an audience of Israeli travelers that others do not - and it turns out that the answer was right under my nose. "

If you want to enjoy all this goodness, for a group of travelers of 15-10 people you will pay starting at NIS 250 per person - a price that is definitely reasonable and even cheap in relation to the very satisfactory value.

Rodrigo and his loyal staff organize trips for families, fun days for friends and also trips with open registration to which people from all over the country register.

The trips are held in all regions of the country, while in summer they also include water attractions.

Accommodation for NIS 700 per couple

On a full stomach we returned to the Golden Crown Hotel in Nazareth, were led straight to the massage bed for a pampering massage - and from there, with little time left for sunset, we jumped into the pool. The most notable thing about the hotel, apart from its size, is the view from the pool, because (have we already said that?) The hotel is located on a mountain top. When we came to lie on the sunbeds, we debated whether to lie face down towards the pool or towards the view. No decision was made so we went for a quick dip in the pool and from there we dragged ourselves to our cozy room, which includes a separate living room and a balcony that also overlooks the same view from which you can not take your eyes off. The hotel staff was very helpful, the dinner was varied and delicious and apart from the lack of electrical outlets in the hotel's large lobby, we had no complaints.

Let's talk business, because hotels in the country seem to take advantage of the fact that abroad is not really an option to raise prices. In the case of Golden Crown Nazareth - we were pleasantly surprised. When I told friends that we stay at the hotel, one of them replied: Was there an opportunity to ask him why Golden Crown? He explained: "It's the best price we've found for a family.

You can not find a night for a couple in Israel for NIS 700. "

Exactly

.

We compared prices and the Golden Crown Nazareth is indeed one of the cheapest we found, of course in relation to what it has to offer. -Saturday starts at NIS 1,550 for a couple also on a bed and dinner basis.

The hotel took advantage of the Corona period for a number of innovations such as a new room wing offering 26 family rooms, a spa complex with a heated indoor pool, a Turkish bath, a dry sauna, treatment rooms and a gym.

The hotel's 6 conference halls have been renovated and a modern business lounge will soon be built that will serve as a comfortable place for business activities and social gatherings.
