France is once again enjoying the pleasure of terraces in a (finally) springtime atmosphere, the Covid-19 epidemic is losing ground but it has not been eradicated for all that.

Proof that it is too early to let our guard down, 539 people have been admitted to hospital since Thursday because of their Covid-19 infection, against 499 the day before.

Even if the hospital staff is breathing a little, a total of 17,272 patients are still hospitalized in France.

They were 17,941 Wednesday, a sign of a decline in the number of contaminations on French territory.

This figure, which had exceeded 31,000 cases at the height of the third wave in mid-April, dropped back below 20,000 on Saturday for the first time since October 27.

Increase in new critical care patients

In critical care (bringing together intensive care units, intensive care units and monitoring units), the decline that began almost a month ago is declining on Friday: 155 new patients have been admitted in the last 24 hours, against only 127 the day before.

In all, 3,104 people are currently suffering from a severe form of the disease requiring treatment within these specialized services.

There were 3,206 on Thursday and 3,631 a week ago.

In hospital, 105 people have died in the past 24 hours from the virus, compared to 146 the day before and 111 a week earlier.

In total, since the start of the epidemic, 108,889 people have lost their lives in France due to Covid-19.
