In a police patrol car in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Lippe, an officer came across a painted swastika.
As the police headquarters in Bielefeld announced, the police officer had informed her superiors about the incident.
Now the state security is investigating because of the use of symbols of unconstitutional organizations.
State security becomes active in politically motivated crimes.
When the policewoman folded down the sun visor on the driver's side on Friday morning, she said she noticed the swastika on the ceiling of the car.
According to the police headquarters, the sign is only visible when the sun visor is down.
It is one and a half by one and a half centimeters tall.
"Unbearable graffiti"
It was initially unclear who painted the swastika on the patrol car.
The car was taken over by the Lippe police on May 12th.
Since the car was recently in a workshop, not only police officers are possible perpetrators.
