FIDENZA - We leave at dawn in the heart of Emilia, in the province of Parma, to discover landscapes of hills and streams, castles and palaces full of history and the many villages that welcome visitors in search of well-being and fruits of this rich and hospitable land.

The itinerary begins in Fidenza, where the "Parma 2064" dairy opens its doors to guided tours to discover the most loved Italian cheese in the world. We walk along corridors where over 30 thousand wheels of Parmesan mature on high shelves, of which we discover the history and curiosities about the production; and the visit ends, after passing the warehouse, with a tasting of cheeses of 12, 24 and over 40 months of maturation.

The itinerary then continues north towards the hamlet of Roncole Verdi, where you can stop and visit the birthplace of

Giuseppe Verdi

. In the adjacent town of Busseto, everything recalls the great composer: the statue that presides over the central square and Casa Barezzi, which today is a Verdi museum but was once the home of the entrepreneur who discovered the talent of his future son-in-law, hosting his first exhibition public.

Walking through the rooms full of memorabilia, autographed letters, portraits, documents and scores is like taking a leap into the nineteenth century and into the immortal music of the Maestro. Also worth a visit are the theater dedicated to him, the city living room housed in the thirteenth-century Rocca, the Palazzo del Monte di Pietà, the Collegiate Church of San Bartolomeo, the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli and the Giuseppe Verdi national museum which with the Renata Tebaldi museum is set up in the Villa Pallavicino, one of the most beautiful and richest noble residences in the area.

A short detour to enter the world of

Giovannino Guareschi

, writer of the famous saga of Don Camillo and Peppone. In Fontanelle di Roccabianca (PR), the birthplace, where the Mondo Piccolo museum exists (currently closed for renovation). In Diolo there is the Boscaccio Museum dedicated to him by two meritorious volunteers, Cesare and Caterina Bertozzi. In Roncole Verdi (PR), a hamlet of Busseto, Giovannino Guareschi lived from 1952 until his death, 1968 and there is the Guareschi House Museum dedicated to him next to the birthplace of Maestro Verdi which houses the permanent anthological exhibition "Giovannino, nostra papa ", a study center and the Guareschi archive made up of more than 200,000 documents.

Continuing for about ten kilometers to the north and following the course of the Po you arrive in Polesine Parmense, where there is an address not to be missed to appreciate the authentic local gastronomic excellences: the Antica Corte Pallavicina of chefs Luciano and Massimo Spigaroli. Inside you can taste traditional cuisine in the Hosteria del Maiale and visit the Culatello and Masalén museum, among the delicious cured meats that hang in the oldest aging cellars in the world. The day can only end in the Terme di Salsomaggiore and Tabiano, a temple of well-being; in addition to the establishments where you can relax there are other monuments to see: the salt castles in defense of the precious salt flats between Tabiano, Contignaco and Scipione, and MuMab, the Museum of the ancient sea and biodiversity, with fossils and oceanic remains.

You can walk along the paths of the rolling hills of Tabiano, on the border with the Stirone and Piacenziano parks, and then end the day with an aperitif in one of the elegant historic cafes of Salsomaggiore Terme. If, then, you want to extend your visit for a few more hours, returning to Parma and traveling for about twenty kilometers to the southwest you get to Felino: the cellars of its castle house the salami museum where tastings and events are planned "Fattorie open ". In the surroundings you can walk along marked trails or travel to the Boschi di Carrega regional park. Nine kilometers further south from Felino, however, we arrive at the Parma Ham Museum: we are in Langhirano, in the former Foro Boario,an area characterized by the processing and maturing of pork and the suggestive castle of Torrechiara, surrounded by vineyards.
