Coronavirus: province by province, what will happen to the face-to-face classes after the new confinement

As of this Monday, and for a week, a less strict confinement will reign in the country, with non-essential shops open and restriction to night-time circulation between 8 and 6 in the areas considered under "epidemiological alert" for concentrating the highest number of coronavirus infections. 

However, not all provinces will make the same decision in a key aspect:

face-to-face classes

The first to differentiate itself was the City of Buenos Aires, which distanced itself from the national government's proposal to maintain teaching virtually.

Here is a review of the decisions announced by each jurisdiction.

The Minister of Education, Nicolás Trotta, in a virtual meeting with ministers of Education from the 24 provinces.

Buenos aires city.

Presence will be resumed in kindergartens, in initial, primary and special education, while first and second year students will resume bimodality: half face-to-face and half virtual.

The rest of the secondary school students will attend the virtual modality, as will those who attend adult schools, tertiary schools or Vocational Training Centers.

Buenos Aires province. 

Governor Axel Kicillof will keep the face-to-face classes suspended, as it was decided since April 18 in the cities under epidemiological alert.

Cordova.

 The face-to-face classes will be retaken in the initial, primary and special education levels, and always with the modality of "bubbles" to guarantee distancing.

The return of secondary school students will also be enabled, except in towns or urban conglomerates with more than 30,000 inhabitants ".

Mendoza.

 Presence will be resumed at the initial, primary and secondary levels, with the same protocols and capacity restrictions that have been implemented since February in the classrooms.

The institutes of Higher Education will continue with the education under the virtual modality, while the government evaluates advancing winter holidays.

Santa Fe.

The schools will be closed and the educational activity will be carried out under virtual and distance mode.

Teachers may attend the establishment to give virtual classes or accompany the delivery of materials.

The Pampa.

Face-to-face classes will continue to be suspended and each institution must design a system of minimum guards, especially those that have a dining room service.


Land of Fire.

Face-to-face classes return as before the last confinement of President Alberto Fernández.

With protocols, bubbles of between 12 and 13 students, and weeks interspersed with a virtual week and the next face-to-face.

Omar Perotti, governor of Santa Fe, announced that virtual education will continue in the province.

Santa Cruz

There will be face-to-face classes at the initial and primary level in only ten Rio Negro municipalities, including Bariloche, Dina Huapi, Ñorquinco, Pilcaniyeu, Los Menucos, Sierra Colorada, Ramos Mexia, Maquinchao, Guardia Miter and Conesa.

As explained by the provincial government, those districts "register a decreasing trend of infections."

Neuquén.

The face-to-face classes will continue to be suspended for at least one more week in all the towns of the province governed by Omar Gutiérrez.

This was confirmed by the head of the Neuquén Cabinet, Sebastián González.

"The educational service is being provided and it will continue to be provided. We know that it is a difficult and complicated issue."

Classes will continue virtually.

Currents.

The province joined the suspension of face-to-face classes until May 31.

However, until this Saturday it had not been officially reported what will happen from Monday.

"We make decisions and if the national government invites the suspended classes to continue, we will accompany," said Governor Gustavo Valdés on Monday.

Chaco.

Governor Jorge Capitanich announced that he will maintain the suspension of face-to-face classes throughout the province, after Chaco registered a new peak of infections this Thursday, with 861 new cases of coronavirus.

"Without the restrictions it is not possible to change the behavior of the curve," the governor had advanced.

Formosa.

As since the start of the pandemic in 2020, the province will continue without face-to-face classes as of Monday.

Although there was a plan for a gradual return to the classroom, the increase in the number of infected removes any possibility.

Another fact: most of the Formosa schools were converted into compulsory isolation centers for those infected with coronavirus.

Saint Louis.

Although some economic activities will be made more flexible during the week, the teaching of classes will continue virtually until June 7.

The Rioja.

It will maintain the virtuality of classes in private schools, while the state schools have been without education for two months due to a strike by the majority union AMP (Association of Teachers and Teachers).

San Juan.

The government of Sergio Uñac reported that face-to-face activities in educational establishments of all levels and modalities will be suspended, taking only the virtual modality as valid.

The province has not yet confirmed how it will continue its plan regarding education.
