A few days before a new day of fighting against sexist violence - June 3 marks the sixth anniversary of the first NiUnaMenos -,
the new data from the National Registry of Femicides was known.
According to the report of the Office for Women of the highest court, in 2020 there were 287 fatalities: 251 from direct femicide and 36 from linked femicide.
The vice president of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, Elena Highton de Nolasco, in charge of the Office of Women (OM), released this Saturday the update of the National Registry of Femicides of the Argentine Justice.
The document reveals that
between January 1 and December 31, 2020, there were 287 fatal victims of gender violence
(251 direct victims and at least 36 linked).
It gives an average of 1 direct femicide every 35 hours.
The average age of the direct victims of femicide was
38 years
.
Among them, 24 were girls and adolescents (0 to 17 years old) and, at the other extreme, 11% were 60 years or older.
The group with the highest rate was 35-44 years old.
At least
41 victims had made complaints: it
is 15% of the total.
In addition, in at least 29 links, previous acts of gender violence that arise through other means from the review of court cases, but which had not been reported, were revealed, and
14 had protection measures.

The registry also identified that
Sundays in 2020 were the days that more femicides were committed
.
On average, one femicide every Sunday.
Most of the cases (56%) occurred between night and early morning.
Unlike other years, April was the month with the most femicides (27 murders), although the total number of cases remained stable between 2019 and 2020. There were also 20 direct multiple femicides.
In 84% of the cases,
the victim knew his aggressor,
who in six out of ten cases was a partner or ex-partner, and in 48% they lived together.
Of the total, 24 were girls or adolescents and 11% were 60 years or older, while more than 1 in 4 victims were between 35 and 44 years old (26%).
At least 5 were people with disabilities, 6 were pregnant, 20 were international migrants, 13 were in a situation of prostitution, 2 were indigenous or descendants of native or indigenous peoples and 5 were in a street situation.
At least 27 were missing or missing.
Of the total of the victims, there were
216 children and adolescents who were in charge of them.
63% of the cases
occurred in the victim's home.
In 32% of the cases, the femicide was committed by physical force, in 26% knives were used and in 18% it was firearms.
15% of the femicides committed suicide.
The crime that does not go down
The rate of direct victims of femicide per 100,000 women in 2020 was 1.09.
The evolution of the distribution of direct femicides
remains relatively stable between 2017 and 2020.
Seven provinces had a direct femicide rate per 100,000 women higher than the national average of 1.09: Jujuy (2.82);
Tucuman (2.10);
Chaco (1.97);
Jump (1.53);
Missions (1.43);
Santa Fe (1.38);
and Corrientes (1.23).
If the absolute numbers are taken into account, the majority of femicides (37%) occurred in the Province of Buenos Aires, followed by Santa Fe (10%).
