At La Villette, Napoleon at the time of the coronation

REPORT - The event exhibition does not stop at aligning masterpieces and cultivating myths. Behind the educational concern, the historical rigor is there.


At the Grande Halle de la Villette, its name can be read from afar, in fluorescent yellow on a black background. We would have preferred the golden, more elegant one of the bee, a symbol placed at the top of the pole of all the flags of the Napoleonic armies. Large-scale marketing obliges (with an entire room filled with a thousand books and derivative products!) For this exhibition designed before the pandemic as a sister to the record-breaking one on Tutankhamun in 2019. Lack of foreign tourists and due to a limited capacity , it will not be the ambitioned blockbuster. But it won't be La Bérézina either, as reservations are pouring in. The organizers are assured of a nice popular success. The cause? The strength of the myth, of course, despite the controversy over Napoleon which continued to swell with the bicentenary of his death on May 5, 2021.
