Argentina became the

thirteenth country to reach 80,000 deaths

from coronavirus.

The Ministry of Health of the Nation reported this Friday another 539 deaths and thus the national territory accumulates 80,411 fatalities since the beginning of the pandemic.

In addition, the health portfolio confirmed 30,950 new positive cases, which climb to 3,915,397.

Despite the arrival of vaccines in recent weeks and the acceleration of the immunization plan -10.4 million received one dose but less 3 obtained both-, the number of deaths continues to grow strongly: in

just 20 days more than 10,000 were added deceased.

The first death in the country was reported on March 7 of last year.

It was a 65-year-old man who had been in France and was admitted to the Argerich Hospital.

Since then, it took 184 days to reach the 10,000 dead.

And from there it took 24 days to climb to 20,000, with the exception that the province of Buenos Aires added 3,500 that were not registered.

The 30 thousand fatalities were reached on October 29, in just 28 days.

However, already entering summer and with higher temperatures, there was a sharp slowdown in deaths, in line with the decrease in cases.

To climb the 40 thousand deceased, 68 days were required, for the 50 thousand another 66 and for the 60 thousand it took 68 days.

The impact of the so-called “second wave” of infections - which began to be felt in the first days of April - again shortened the deadlines.

In just 24 days, 70 thousand deaths were reached and only another 20 passed for the 80 thousand.

This is the shortest period of time in which 10,000 deaths were added.

According to the Argentine Integrated Health Information System (SISA), the province of Buenos Aires registers half of the deaths in the entire country, with more than 40 thousand.

Then the City of Buenos Aires (13 thousand), Santa Fe (5,500), Córdoba (4,000), Mendoza (2,700) and Tucumán (2,100) are located.

At the international level, Argentina is the 13th country in number of deaths -it has just surpassed Spain and is close to Iran-, and in the region it is surpassed by Colombia (90 thousand), Peru (185 thousand) and Brazil (469 thousand ).

However, it falls to position 21 if deaths per million inhabitants are taken into account.

Another hard quarantine weekend

Large urban centers and regions in a situation of "alarm" or "high risk" epidemiological and health

will return this weekend to strict isolation

, in accordance with the strategy designed by the Government to mitigate the advance of the second wave of coronavirus , which strained the national health system, even when the vaccination plan is streamlined in the 24 jurisdictions of the country.

From tomorrow until Sunday at midnight, economic, commercial, industrial, service, cultural, sports, religious, educational, tourist, recreational and social activities will be suspended in those places, in accordance with the Decree of Necessity and Urgency ( DNU) approved last Wednesday by the Senate.

In this way,

people will only be able to mobilize in the vicinity of their homes

and with the almost exclusive reason to stock up on food, medicines and necessities in authorized shops.

The government's decision aims to "avoid irreversible consequences for public health" given the signs of collapse that the public and private health system showed throughout the country in the last quarter, according to the DNU.

As of Monday and until June 11, the current care measures will be restored and then, week by week, the steps to follow will be analyzed, waiting for a brake to be confirmed again in the flood of cases, as happened. in the last days.

"We see that the number of cases between week 19 (from May 10 to 16) and week 20 (from May 17 to 24) had an increase of 31% and that in week 21 (from May 24 to 30) May)

that increase stopped

and we have a decrease of 8% of the cases ", indicated the Minister of Health, Carla Vizzotti, in a press conference at Government House.
