Like other private broadcasters, Sat.1 is trying to polish up its own image.
Reality shows like "Suddenly poor, suddenly rich" are being sorted out.
Now it's the turn of the show "Celebrities under palm trees": The reality format is being discontinued.
»Sat.1 is changing.
We announced that, we will.
That's why we decided: There won't be another season of “Celebrities under the Palms”, ”the broadcaster announced on Twitter.
»We are convinced that good reality TV is excellent television entertainment.
But 'celebrities under palm trees' no longer suits us. "
"Celebrities under palm trees" is about the fact that more or less celebrities live together in a villa in Thailand and compete against each other.
In this year's second season, which was not broadcast to the end due to the death of participant Willi Herren, there had been a lot of anger about statements by candidate Marcus Prinz von Anhalt.
He had reduced women to their looks and had approached drag queen Katy Bähm - alias Burak Bildik - homophobically.
Among other things, he had called gay caresses "disgusting", used anti-gay swear words, and disparaged same-sex sex.
Sat.1 distanced itself sharply, never wanting to let it appear again.
»Sat.1 will change.
To this end, we will commission many new programs over the next few months - and also say goodbye to one or the other program brand such as ›Promis unter Palmen‹, ”said Daniel Rosemann, who has been responsible for Sat.1 alongside ProSieben since mid-May.
A week ago, Sat.1 canceled the series “Suddenly poor, suddenly rich” after candidate Matthias Distel - known as pop singer Ikke Hüftgold - publicly criticized the production.
But Rosemann made it generally clear: "But that does not mean that Sat.1 is burying the genre of reality TV with it." For example, there will be a new season of "Celebrity Big Brother" in the summer.
