Boko Haram leader
Abubakar Shekau
blew himself up during a confrontation with rival jihadist fighters. The militants of the Islamic State of the West African province (Iswap) made it known in an audio released to the AFP, two weeks after news of his death emerged.
"Shekau preferred to be humiliated in the afterlife rather than humiliated on earth. He committed suicide instantly by detonating an explosive," said a voice similar to Iswap leader Abu Musab Al-Barnawi. Boko Haram has not yet officially commented on the news.
