A few days after a similar case that occurred in Rosario, this Friday the
death of a pregnant woman
with coronavirus
was confirmed
in
Santa Fe
.
The authorities reported that the death occurred the previous week after a cesarean section while the mother was hospitalized in
Rafaela
, where her baby remained under treatment.
The director of the Jaime Ferré Hospital, Diego Lanzotti, confirmed that the woman had other children and
had a "severe" covid-19 picture
.
The family lives in Angélica, a town located about 35 kilometers south of the head of the Castellanos department.
Until now, the doctors at the health center had not faced an episode of this type in the framework of the pandemic.
"Adding the coronavirus as a cause of maternal death is unfortunate," said the official when reviewing the background of what happened in the main hospital in the city.
The previous week,
Rafaela reached 100% occupancy of critical beds
in the framework of the second wave of infections and this Saturday the demand was 97% of capacity.
The hospital director pointed out that the woman "was an ordinary person who got sick like anyone else."
Regarding his evolution after being infected, he commented that they
advanced the delivery "to save the child
", who also tested positive for covid-19 and was housed in the neonatology area after birth.
"As crude as it may sound to say it this way, a
cesarean section
had to be done
at a critical moment
," Lanzotti explained in a report with FM Galena.
After the intervention, the mother continued to be housed in the critical care area and finally passed away due to the health problems she had as a result of the coronavirus.
The official pointed out that the death of the patient was "a
very strong blow"
for all the Ferré staff.
In this regard, he recalled that specialists in obstetrics, neonatology and intensive therapy intervened in search of solving the situation.
Until this week, the province's Ministry of Health had diagnosed 1,200 pregnant women with coronavirus in the province.
Prior to this episode in Rafaela,
three deaths
had been reported
in the Gran Rosario
.
The last was confirmed this Thursday in a private sanatorium in the departmental capital, where a 33-year-old woman was hospitalized.
The head of the health portfolio, Sonia Martorano, reiterated that the
situation in Santa Fe is "hypercritical"
in the framework of the second wave of infections.
Last Wednesday the record of new cases in one day was registered with 3,961 positives for COVID-19 and 1,023 hospitalizations.
In this context, the official detailed this Saturday that both Reconquista and Venado Tuerto had reached 100% occupancy of critical beds.
